Jug

Germany, late 19th century

Cast pewter. Escutcheon finial on the lid. A figure of a knight stands inside a recessed niche on the body; below it is an escutcheon with the winged harpy (Frauenadler) of Nuremberg atop two crossed swords and two halberds. A relief rosette is on the inside base of the jug.

This object dates to the Revivalist period of the late nineteenth century, when interest was rising in objects which imitated older models.
